POETRY IS CONTUMELY

Poetry is contumely when it isn’t love,
For everything is proud
But love.  Love isn’t loud.
Love waits for me at the gate,
Holding a book of verses.
Love never curses.
Love is satisfied with her state.
Love loves me.
Alas, poetry
Is contumely when it isn’t love.
Love has nothing but song
For me all day long.
