A small part of Islam has made the West vexed

With bouts of terror and hatred. When Muslim pride is rubbed raw,

When Islamic pride, embarrassed by the Westerner, over-sexed,

Terrified embarrassment having nowhere to hide,

As Western invaders break Allah’s moral law,

Stealing not only oil, but soiling the essence of women and young—

(A far cry from a quaint National Geographic photograph of camel dung—)

A secret internet sharing of shame travels far and wide

Among shamed, humiliated Muslim hordes,

As British Empire surrogates, U.S. and Israel, throw fuel on the fire

For further control which an Empire affords;

And add to this, the manipulated Sunni/Shiite mire—

You have what we have, and the desire to stop it

Cannot stop what drives it—too many parties do not want to drop it.

Blame Churchill and the British Empire.

Let China and Russia put out the fire.

The U.S., with its befuddled liberalism, and sex,

And freedom, and right-wingers, will only perplex.

Westerners should just stand back.

The West made the Sunnis mad in Iraq.

Oh man. Godless Japan. Can you make Hello Kitty toys attack?

    “Westerners should just stand back.”

Go tell it to the Parisians—
    Hard to stand back—
    When the bombs go boom—
    And the guns ackety-ack

I guess no one can “stand back.” The whole world is implicated and involved. It’s a huge mess. It’s ugly. It’s embarrassing. I think that’s what causes wars and hostilities to grow. Mass social humiliation. That’s all this silly poem was trying to say.

    …muezzins chanted, mullahs chuckled
    swords were sharpened, bomb-vests buckled.
    Dhimmi dim-wits went on shopping.
(Are heads in sand less prone to chopping ?)

    Hesitating, he cleared his throat,
raised his pitch by a quarter note:
    “These acts are most undemocratic
We are saddened; yet emphatic – “

(no one heard his discourse further
drowned by the sound of massive murder…)

So let’s consider what is meant
by rolling heads and bodies splattered…
    time for Truth to represent
    (as if such inconvenience mattered…)

    Such events disturb our sleep
and force us to compose, on waking,
    lullabies for drowsy sheep
    as predators are overtaking.

Flags of doom and holy slaughter,
sons of Ishmael filled with rage
are coming for your wife and daughter
and yourself. You turn the page.

Rising now to storm your tower
(7th century back to bite you),
    Allah brings satanic power
to convert you or to smite you.

Dimwit dhimmis would have us think
    such rage is due to unemployment;
    pure confusion on the brink
    of funding further troop deployment.

    Meanwhile, mullahs sip their tea
    while tenured academics prattle
    watching MSNBC
    as soldiers die in battle.

O.K. I admit it. And I was embarrassed to admit it before. After listening obssessively to every horrific detail cycled and recyled for hours of the events in soon as I saw the Helly Kitty picture at the top of the post paired with headline I started to laugh. And the first thing I thought was, thank God I can still laugh. The same thing happened when I reached the last line. The image of Helly Kitty being siced on the terrorirsts by the Japanese and the way the poem managed to deliver this ludicrous beyond belief solution in such a psuedo righteous way was making me fall off my chair laughing.

The deliverate awfulness of the poem was perfect. It delivered me from fear as much as John Donne’s Death Be Not Proud. And really the relentless hysteria and mindless popping off right in the midst of unfolding tragedy where they can’t shup up for a minute makes as much sense as letting loose the “kitties’ of war. Thank you thank you for making me laugh. After 911 I had a dream that terrorists came to my childhood home and my Grandmother took out a whole chicken in the oven she had been baking (this really was a dream; my grandmother hated cooking) in the oven and beat them over the head with it till they couldn’t take anymore. It was wonderful to wake up laughing in an atmosphere that was unrelentingly made more grim by the government useless laughable protocals (duct tape on the windows; orange alerts anyone) and the horror mongering news outlets. So laugh in the face of deaht Hello Kitty and co. Why not. No human has the power over life and death because they have to die too. They also serve who only stand and laugh.

Leave typos in. Maybe they will make somebody laugh. I’m really fond of Helly Kitty. Works, don’t you think?

For anyone who might not have read this yet…

[Holy Sonnets]: Death, be not proud
          BY JOHN DONNE

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
          Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think’st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul’s delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell’st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Yes, this is the present paradigm—
(I’m trying my best to state it in rhyme)—
With Hello Kitty we entertain the world—
While the serious bizness by Putin’s unfurled

I have another Terrorist post which should make people laugh.
But afraid to publish, as it might be seen as a white male gaffe.

It is good in this current climate (which will probably be for a long time now) in any case to avoid unnecessary aggravation from others’ deliberate misperceptions and the territory for that to happen seems almost boundless.

One of the most inane phrases ever: “dead white males”. First of all, all the colors will have their own chance to be dead; secondly this is an insanely broad category (white male). Thirdly if you banished from the earth (and most definitely from literature) everything written or invented by “dead white males’ who would want to live in the ruins? Not me.

I don’t even know how white can remotely be considered an ethnic group. This makes no sense. There are white russians, white spaniards, celtic, indo european, you name it with unbelievable variant cultures and epochs. But I know this is kind of getting off the subject, a thing I would have gotten straight As in from gradeschool if it were an actual subject. I remember with fondness a kid in fiftth or sixth grade who had so much finesse in getting the teacher off the subject that sometimes I didn’t have to give my book report till the next day. Everyone loved this kid. And many counted on him especially when the teacher was in a bad mood and prone to give pop quizzes.

      Hi Mary,

      Well said.

How ignorant narrow and prejudiced to hate ANY race or ANY gender.

      Thank you!
